Through consolidation of warehouses and the construction of a national distribution centre at Erskine Park on the western fringe of Sydney, we have implemented a number of initiatives that will help us to achieve long term sustainability in our supply chain.
Our new Distribution Centres were built with sustainable features, such as rainwater capture and automatic lighting.
Previously all imported products came into Sydney ( NSW) and were transferred to other states. High volume codes now go direct to Queensland and Victoria which reduces the amount of road transport.
We use shipper and palletising optimisation software to ensure supply chain efficiency. This enables us to optimise the number of pallets and trucks required to move our products and ensure that our products can be efficiently warehoused. We also invest in labour to get a better cubic fill on trucks and therefore require fewer trucks on the road reducing our carbon emissions.
The KCA packaging team applies a scientific approach to all packaging design and selection to ensure functionality, cost and environmental design consideration are optimised.
