KCA's 'Walking the Talk' with Sustainability - 2010

Find out why KCA is known as one of the true business leaders when it comes to sustainability and corporate social commitment.

KCA Sustainability report 2010Sydney, Thursday 16 June 2011: At today’s sustainability event, Glen Watts, Managing Director Kimberly-Clark Australia & New Zealand spoke about the importance of ethics and values in today’s fast paced, competitive business environment where Australian manufacturing in particular is under immense pressure due to cheap overseas imports, the rising cost of commodities, and a looming carbon tax.

“It might be said values like being ‘caring’, ‘accountable’ and ‘authentic’ are old fashioned or clichéd but if you’re in a hospital where Hospital Acquired Infections threaten your life, or if you’re concerned about the safety of the materials in your baby’s nappy or that the tissues and toilet paper you purchase are made from ethically sourced fibres, not precious forests, they are as relevant today as ever,” said Watts.

Watts also announced that in 2010;

  • Kimberly-Clark’s Kleenex, Cottonelle, VIVA, Thick and Thirsty and Wondersoft ranges achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification, the most widely recognised forest certification globally, and
  • The company joined WWF’s Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN) – a network of more than 300 companies, communities, NGOs, and entrepreneurs in more than 30 countries around the world working to create a new market for environmentally responsible forest products and helping to ensure that millions of acres of forests are independently and credibly certified.

Watch the Walking the Talk Launch Video - 2010“We want to signal clearly to consumers that they can make a difference to the environment without compromising on quality and that it’s not all about price, so from next month you’ll be seeing the iconic WWF Panda on every new pack of Kleenex Cottonelle,” Watts announced.

Guest speakers Gilly Llewellyn, Director of Conservation at WWF spoke about ‘How one of the world’s most recognisable icons is impacting shopper behaviour’ and Richard Stanton, CEO A3P discussed ‘Illegal logging and ethical sourcing – who cares?’

Today’s launch followed the recent announcement of Kimberly-Clark Corporation’s 2015 Sustainability Goals, the company’s most stringent yet at the Corporate EcoForum dinner for Fortune 500 companies in Washington. The strategy engages Kimberly-Clark’s global businesses, brands and employees on the framework of ‘People, Planet and Products’.
